Quietly Wild
by Alix KlingenbergGetting into alignment with our natural environment is a key component for wellbeing and joy. Studies have shown that allowing yourself to change with your own internal rhythms helps prevent burnout, mental and physical illness, and increases self-love, peace, and meaning. I believe it is also a way for us to bring more attention to our planet, the many incredible plants and animals we live alongside, and to the human animal’s impact on our own home.
The rituals in this collection follow the path of Earth as it travels around the Sun, marking the Equinoxes, Solstices, and the mid-points between. They coincide with the Pagan holidays of the year (Mabon, Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, and Lammas). However, I am approaching the rituals with a Religious Naturalist lens. Where humanism puts humans at the center of ethical concern and reason as the highest value, religious naturalism puts nature at the center, with humans as only a part of the whole. Where Wiccan and Pagan traditions use gods and goddesses as metaphorical embodiments of natural aspects, religious naturalism believes that nature is enough, in and of itself, to inspire worship, awe, and humility.
