The term “mind” is bandied about freely but it can mean quite different things depending on the context in which it is used. What does “mind” mean to you?

I would say it’s a loose but convenient way to refer to brain-based consciousness, i.e. animal consciousness.

Terry, I’m OK but not wildly enthusiastic about the word “mind.”  Insofar as it is somehow a metaphor for the personal and group products of the brain, that makes sense to me.  My issue is when the word gets used as a sort of proxy for inherent mystery, as opposed to mysteries not yet understood.  I guess it depends on the context, and I can certainly imagine usages that would seem perfectly OK.  I’ll be on the lookout for usages that seem problematical to me, and if I find one I’ll come back to this page and post it, with more on my queasiness about the usage.  Yours, Michael
