There are many recent studies on the experience of awe, and its relationship to eudaemonia (profound sense of well-being). Keltner and Haidt are the big names in that field, so googling them will bring up all kinds of great work. For me, that awe experience comes sometimes from just being in the woods, and sometimes from learning new amazing things about natural reality.
Even something as simple as visualizing myself with a round Earth under me and open space beyond that (below me), can feel like an opening or expansion of my relationship with it all.
