Here is a recent PBS clip on melting permafrost as a tipping point issue. Melting permafrost isn’t actually new science or even nee as a climate topic. It hasn’t played a large role in climate models mostly due to lack of data, not lack of theory. The lack of data is mostly due to the lack of funding which is due to sociological issues … commons vs independence of wealth … which is why I have posted this piece here under “sociology”:

I think it might be.
The sociological problem is the lack of focus our global societies show relative to this extreme existential issue.
War in Ukraine, the political transformation of the U.S. Supreme Court, Hunter Biden, Fox News, election denialism, criminalization of the former Trump Administration and its allies, guns killing children and random innocents, supply line and other global economic issues, response or lack of response to earthquakes and other natural disasters (whether or not climate related) … all take focus away from the existential dangers of the melting of our common permafrost (and glaciers, etc).
We need that focus.
