Education about Ecological Disasters

Here is one of many very typical articles about the disaster that is the Future Great Salt Lake Toxic Dustbowl:

The entire cultural education system and almost all the major social media outlets basically screen over or side step all this as being “too controversial”.
The scientific academic industry also doesn’t have any current way of garnering enough attention to these things … and the major universities (as entities, not as individual departments) don’t speak regularly to the public about the “common good”, imo.
We have to help somehow change the common perception if the common good. But how?
