Re: What makes a song have a Religious Naturalist theme?

Emerson, I added My Back Pages to the songbook. (See Tony's first link upthread for the address.) Kind of related (in the sense of freeing oneself from putting everything in a tidy box), this weekend I actually heard a good song on the radio (remember when radio was once the source of all one's new ...

Re: What does “religious” mean to you?

Yes I agree we RNs don't have specific practices in common like the rituals in other religious communities. Maybe for us ritual is not as strong an incentive as reason for our practices. But it may be nice to have a little ritual like some Muslims do who say "inshallah" (god willing) when ...

Re: What does “religious” mean to you?

Re: What makes a song have a Religious Naturalist theme?

Tony, I don't think there could be any objective or universal criterion for being a religious naturalist song. Everyone comes to music with their own perspective and interpretation. So I am satisfied with the criterion for a song being in the songbook is that at least one person considers it to have...

Re: Soul

Michael, I pretty much align with you view that soul only transcends our death through our influences on other people while we were alive. I do think though of soul and personality as somewhat different aspects of the self. When I think of personality I think of Myers-Briggs types: extraversion/intr...

Soul

Soul Earlier this week, the Washington Post published a new year’s piece entitled How I learned to heal my soul, with help from love and Socrates by Paul Woodruff, former professor of philosophy and classics for 49 years at the University of Texas. The piece may be behind a paywall, but the gist of ...
